U.S. Government Blocking Testing for Mad Cows

A company called Creekstone Farms Premium Beef, which raises Black Angus, has a plan to market its product as being free of the dreaded Mad Cow disease.  This is especially important to help the company export its product.  The Republic of Korea is actually having protesters take to the streets to oppose importing American beef.  Creekstone Farms was not satisfied with the USDA policy of only testing 1% of cows for this disease, so they decided they would test 100% of the cows they process.

In a move that could come from the pages of Atlas Shrugged, by Ayn Rand; the US Government (Bush Administraton) is going to court to keep Creekstone Farms from testing its own product for safety!  Creekstone Farms is a midsize business, looking for ways to increase its market share.  Larger beef processors do not want to have to compete by testing their own product, so their Washington D.C. cronies are using the long arm of the government to stand in the way of Creekstone Farms conducting universal testing.

It is especially important that we elect representatives that will get the government out of the way of individuals and businesses.  Currently, the DC politicians are only looking after the megarich and large corporate interests.  It’s time to take back America.

I think this quote can be applied to this story:

“You will never understand bureaucracies until you understand that for bureaucrats, procedure is everything and outcomes are nothing.”
- Thomas Sowell
