Who Does Gant Represent?

H.J. Timmermans wrote this letter to the Daily Sun News. I couldn’t have said it better myself:
The past couple of days I read the reports in the Daily Sun News on the city of Sunnyside employees’ wages and the response of the city council.
First off, what blows my mind is the statement Councilman Bill Gant made: “Quite frankly, I am getting a little tired of hearing about the citizens. A lot of times citizens choose crappy lifestyles which lead to crappy lives, and that’s the choice they make.”
Wow! Who does he think he is representing? Is it the citizens or is it the city employees?
Does he realize that we are living in a moderate to low income area? This is not Seattle, Chicago or New York, for sure.
Has Mr. Gant ever been self-employed like many of us? The self-employed person has no guaranteed annual income. It varies from year to year.
Are we, the self-employed, among the crappy citizens who choose crappy lifestyles? The self-employed do not have any benefits. The self-employed pay all the fees, the taxes and many other business expenses that need to be paid every month, including expenses to keep the city going.
Come on now, get a life, man.
All we ever hear about is raising taxes and raising wages. Maybe all of the city employees should volunteer to accept a 10 percent cut in their wages for two years to balance the budget. If all of the local, state and federal employees would agree to a reduction in pay instead of an increase in pay, we could come close to balancing many budgets.

It sounds as if councilman Bill Gant represents himself and the elitist of Sunnyside. But in all honesty. I would say that most well paid people in this town think that the Lord Jesus Christ had alot to do with their ability of having good jobs. Oh yues, there are a few elitist like councilman Bill Gant that take the FULL credit for what happens to themselves ! The crappy people that councilman Gant was talking about may very well be the people who do the jobs no one else wants to do. The people who are the foundation of this community. The people as Hank Timmermans said pay the taxes and keep the payroll paid here in the community.
But for all fairness, the whole city council has an atmosphere about themselves that lowers the moral of this great city. The city council has a tendency of not caring about the taxpayer at all. I would say this council should not be characterized by its outward appearance. But, rather on their actions ! This council like no other this city has seen has an inner self confidence that is has them on the apex of looking down on others. The council chambers is actually reversed to what it should be. It has the council looking down on the taxpayer. When in actuality; the taxpayer should be looking down on the council. The taxpayer of this community should be put on a pedestal ! But, this council rises itself to the apex of pedestal standing!
Then as you can tell that all decisions by this council are made prior to all council meetings. They just vote on the material at the meetings to make a grand show for the taxpayer. The council has limited the taxpayer to 5 minutes to stand before the council to raise concerns. When in all actuality; 30 seconds would do, being they had their decisions made beforehand. Now a tru council concerned about the taxpayer would have tabled this raise question until another future meeting. Then each and every council member would have asked the people they are SUPPOSE to represent what they thought about raises and wages. But, being Bill Gant says the people he is suppose to represent are just crappy people. This was not done. So as a childish move he voted against any raise other than the outlandish raise he wanted.
Was what councilman Gant did a major tirade that will change this city. Well this depends on several different motives that the council has up their sleaves. If the council listenes to the taxpayer and does what they should. Councilamn Gant’s tirade might be a blessing for Sunnyside. Even if they do not listen, as I am believing they will not. It will be a blessing come the elections next fall!
But we must remember that Bill Gant and rest the council often choses to forgo what the laws state and think they as a council they can do anything they want above the law. Why di the do this. Number they are protected. So, in all actuality, all that can be done is vote them out. If this were the 1800′s. Lynching would be the way to resolve these problems !
Here is a verse out of scriptures that sums up Bill Gant and the rest of the council. If people would read this or carry a copy with them and live by it. This town would not have the problems the council is creating today. ” WE have learned by sad experience that it is the nature of almost all men (women included) , as soon as they gat a little authority, as the suppose, they will immediately begin to exercise unrighteous dominion.”
As it is said ” you cannot have a positive factor without a negative factor “. Thus if this council dissects coucilman Gants chidish tirade. They could make it into a positive attribute to advance their abilities to govern this city. If, I were a vegas odds maker; I would not put big odds on it to happen.
A follow up to the city council of Sunnyside. 1. Before voting on anything. Give yourself at least two weeks to contact the people you represent. Do not represent yourself. Represent the taxpayer. 2. Listen to the taxpayer and do not over ride their wants. They elcted you to represent them. They did not vote you in because you are smarter than them. Thats a fallacie the the current council percives as justification to vote any old way they want. 3. Tell the Taxpayer why the council does what it does. Being we as taxpayers perceive you do not know what you are doing by your actions. 4. If something major is on the horizon. Publish it. The pros and cons. Then once again listen to the taxpayer. 5. I guarantee that the existing council people do not have the highest IQ’s in this town. Many of the taxpayers do. The smart people are making money at their own businesses. Contact them and listen. 6. Do Not let the Port of Sunnyside run you in the ground. The Port of Sunnyside is a socialist organization thinking only they should be doing economic development in Sunnyside. That private enterprise should not be involved. As Commissioner Matson told one of his now X clients. Buying property in this town is a bad investment. And yet he is letting the Port buy up vast amounts of property. No, not with the Port’s money. But, with the taxpayers money. So we have alot of hypocrisy in the Port of Sunnyside from the manager thru the commissioners. 7. When economic development is on the horizon; jump on it and go out of your way to see the city lands it. The Port will only want it if it makes THEM look good. 8. Now don’y vote for your friends. But for your taxpayers. Do not do as Hochalter and Davis did on the planning commission. They voted against the economic development around the airport because they have a friend out there now developing a hangar. And they did not want him to have any competition ! You didn’t know this did you. Or this is how you operate too, so do not oppose it. 9. You do not deserve respect; you earn respect ! 10. Do not vote against people you do not like. People sound off because the council does not listen ! Vote what the city needs. Not what YOU think the city needs. Otherwise WAKE UP !! 11. listen to the people with different outlooks than you. These people will teach you something. You weren’t voted in for your brains as said before !
