Daschle is down and out after revelations that he never paid taxes on a car and driver provided to him by his employer. He said it was an “honest mistake” and that he was “sorry”. Oops, he didn’t pay $140,000 of taxes for this perk over several years. To his credit, Obama is taking responsibility for nominating Daschle for a cabinet post, and saying that he “screwed up”.
Of course, this is not the only tax cheat nominated for a cabinet post. Timothy Geithner, former head of the New York Federal Reserve Bank, is now our new Treasury Secretary. He is also “sorry” for making an “honest mistake” of not paying any payroll taxes for his illegal immigrant house servant. He also failed to file quarterly tax forms when working as an independent contractor.
What is really frustrating about these guys is that they should have known better. It is an insult to the intelligence of the average American to think they didn’t know about these things being taxable. Daschle used to be on the Senate Finance Committee that helps to write the very tax code he failed to follow. Geithner is a professional in the field of finance and banking. These are not “technical” faults on the part of these men. They either knew they were breaking the rules, or they should have known. There is no gray area when it comes to these things. Anyone that has ever had a company car knows it is taxable when you use it for personal reasons. Ditto for paying taxes on domestic help or “nanny” taxes. I used to be an independent contractor and was VERY aware of the need to file and pay estimated taxes on a quarterly basis. In fact, the IRS, without any prompting from me, sent me the forms to “help” me in this regard!
While it is refreshing to see Obama admit he made a mistake in nominating Daschle, Geithner gets a free pass. What’s the difference? Obama has said that it is bad policy for the President to second guess the Federal Reserve.
Mr. Obama, I respectfully disagree. No one is above the law. Not you, not U.S. Senators, and no, not even Federal Reserve bankers.

WSRP BLOG
I think the writer of this blog is missing the point !! The tax laws have a clause in them that you fail to mention. It says, that if you are a politician representing the poor; that you only have to pay taxes when CAUGHT ! You must have missed this when you read the tax laws. This was one of the last bills Clinton signed when he pardoned that poor soul, Rich. Rich took advantage of the clause and fled to Israel. Thus he can still send the Clinton’s the money owed for the pardon as a campaign donation. Why else did Hilary run last year. She was receiving all the under handed pay backs owed her and Bill !! The two Bush’s, Clinton’s and thje money men already knew Obama would be elected !
