Mexican Flag vs. American Flag
April 23, 2009
This picture comes from a high school in California from 2006. Despite this “arrangement” of the flags taking place three years ago, it represents sentiments that have not gone away.

Reportedly, the student that did this received some kind of disciplinary action. I guess that is appropriate, but I am not so sure about it as I might have been in the past.
Locally, a good number of Lower Valley employers now require that new hires speak Spanish, or they won’t be hired. This includes big companies and even fast food franchises. Skilled and unskilled labor.
The bottom line is that I want my kids to be able to communicate in Spanish, as it is sure to be a requirement for even entry-level jobs, both now and in the future.
The disrespect shown to the U.S. flag is a mere expression of the feelings towards U.S. history and tradition. We will all have to deal with changes in the coming years, whether we like it or not.
