Mike Farmer A Strong Leader In Sunnyside District 2 Primary
August 18, 2009 2 Comments
Sunnyside City Council candidate Mike Farmer is leading very strongly in the District 2 Primary. Initial results posted by the Yakima County Auditor have him leading by more than double the votes received by the incumbent Jesse Hernandez, Jr.
Mike Farmer has 270 votes, or 57.32%. Incumbent Jesse Hernandez, Jr. has 130 votes or 27.60%. Political newcomer Thomas Warren received 69 votes, or 14.65%.
These are the initial results, and will be updated by the Yakima County Auditor on a daily basis as the final ballots arrive through the U.S. Mail. Yakima County is showing a little over 25% turnout of registered voters countywide so far in the primary results.
15th District Representative David Taylor will face off against Democratic challenger John Gotts in the general election. Interestingly, John Gotts publicly withdrew from the campaign, as he is reportedly moving out of the state to pursue a job opportunity in California. His name will still be on the ballot, however, because he withdrew after the time allowed to have his name taken off the ballot.
David Taylor received over 65% of the vote in the first day of reporting. John Gotts received 19%. The other Democrat challenger, Donicio Marichalar received 15%.

It was an interesting turnout for the 15th LD State Representative race. I was happily surprised when I won the primary and found that I would be advancing to the general election in November.
As a result I’ve met with investors, management and my engineers and let them know that with everything humming along down here in California I would now be returning home to Washington to continue my campaign through at least November and will be running the companies remotely, with the help of my brilliant CEO. They’re in full support and wish me the best in my race.
I believe that David Taylor is a great guy and I wish him the best in the campaign. He’s a solid member of the community IMHO and I believe that he has the interests of the people in mind. I do as well.
My focus is squarely on bringing living-wage jobs to the community. We MUST support industry whether large or small so that we can bring prosperity back to the fine citizens of our community. With living-wage jobs a parent can work at home with their children as the other partner brings in enough from a single job to care for the needs of the family. With industry in our community we can find the money needed for senior care, veteran’s care, education, libraries, emergency service, roads, infrastructure and more. It really does all come down to living-wage jobs.
I’ve also started an energy company with a retired U.S. Senator that could bring in billions of dollars to participating municipalities. I will explain more about this as time goes on.
Thanks to those who voted for me and I’m looking forward to returning home from my travels to represent the voters in our community and to do what I can to bring home a win for everyone.
John Gotts
Mr. Gotts,
Thank you for your comment, and update on your status as a candidate. Your presence in the race will give voters a choice in November. Thank you for your willingness to serve in Olympia.
