Why Dino Rossi Will Win Washington Senate Seat

Dino Rossi speaking at the 2010 Washington State Republican Party Convention.

Dino Rossi will win the U.S. Senate seat now held by Democrat incumbent Patty Murray in Washington state.  There are a number of reasons for this, but I will focus on just three of them in this post.  While at the Washington State Republican Party Convention, I attended a meeting with two senior aides to the Rossi for Senate Campaign, and will share some insights here.

Reason #1

Dino’s message will win the voters over.  In the last two years, unemployment has skyrocketed, while federal spending (along with record debt and deficits) are threatening our entire financial system.  Voters know that our government in Washington D.C. is out of touch, and that what the current politicians are doing is simply not working.  In fact, it is making things worse.

By contrast, as a State Senator, Dino Rossi addressed what at that time, was the largest deficit in Washington State history.  He balanced the budget without raising taxes, and worked in a bi-partisan way to achieve that solution.  Rossi will do the same thing in Washington D.C., to help balance the budget, reduce our debt and deficits, keep taxes low, and also help set the conditions for the private sector to create much-needed jobs.

Rossi has the legislative and private sector experience needed to get our country, and our economy, moving in the right direction again.

Dino Rossi Campaign Manager Pat Shortridge speaks while Campaign Senior Advisor Lew Moore looks on.

Reason #2

Pat Shortridge: Senior Advisor and Strategist to the Marco Rubio Campaign; Campaign Manager, Rossi for Senate

Dino Rossi has hired Pat Shortridge as his Campaign Manager.  His expertise in running campaigns of national significance is making people take notice nationwide.  When Shortridge started working on the Rubio Campaign in Florida, in April 2009, Rubio was polling 3% in a poll with a 4% margin of error.  This meant it was possible for Rubio to be in the negative!

Following active participation on Facebook, and other grassroots efforts (joined by 912 groups, the Tea Party, and others that care about freedom), Rubio changed the face of Florida politics.  His opponent abandoned the Republican primary, and in Shortridge’s words “is floundering around out there as an independent.”

Rossi had over 50,000 individual donors to his last campaign, and it is a sure bet that Shortridge will leverage technology and grassroots support to get Rossi’s message out to the maximum number of voters possible.

Reason #3

Lew Moore: Chief of Staff to former Congressman Jack Metcalf, National Campaign Manager, Ron Paul 2008

In addition to Pat Shortridge, Rossi has the support of Lew Moore, who revolutionized campaigning with the insurgent candidacy of Ron Paul in 2008.  Lew Moore, like Shortridge, has experience and expertise in using technology to sometimes by-pass the old media, and communicate directly with voters.

Moore pointed out that Rossi is a product of the grassroots, having started out as a Precinct Committee Officer.  He has known Dino Rossi since the 1990′s and has always been impressed with his passion and potential.  He said Rossi is as far from a conventional beltway Senate candidate as a person can get.  He is supporting Rossi because he understands the job market, and has private sector experience that the U.S. Senate needs as it deals with the federal budget and economy.

I would like to see Didier get it being he is a eastern washington resident. But, I will throw my vote towards Rossi being he is a westsider. I do not think an eastsider could carry enough westside votes.

But, how does Pat Shortridge plan to keep dead and fictitious people from voting in King and Pearce counties ?? Seems these county election officials can produce votes when needed!

Jason, could I borrow $1000.00 from you to send to Rossi’s campaign ! Naturally I would have to take executive expenses out of there. But would guarantee I would not keep anymore than the American humane society does!

When can I expect it. If you feel generous; I’d like to send another $1000.00 to Nevada to get Harry Reid whipped ! Well maybe it would be better to have $2000.00 to send to Nevada. That way I could drive to Las Vegas and double it and then give you your $2000.00 back ??? OOPS, forgot about executive expenses. Better make that $4000.00 ! Much appreciated old friend !!!

I applaud Mr Rossi’s work in the state senate, but if anyone thinks he’s going to depolarize Washington DC, sell them the Tacoma Narrows Bridge. He’s my pick for the job, but without unrealistic expectations. (As of 25 May, he was polling best among four candidates against Senator Murray, lagging only by a point [47% to 48%]). Unfortunately, “to get our country, and our economy moving in the right direction again” is going to take regime-change in DC, not just a few senate seats.

I hope both Rossi and Rubio win their elections – that will make it harder for the Pelosi-Reid-Obama machine to roll over the public with their moribund vision of top-down rule, and that will help, but fresh air won’t be let in until the 2012 elections.

    • Thanks for the comment, Russ.

I agree that regime change is needed in Washington D.C., and that a few Senate seats won’t be enough to significantly change things. However, it is possible for Republicans to pick up 10 seats this year, which would give them 51. This is better than 50, where Biden could be the tie-breaking vote.

Dick Morris (currently of Fox News fame) breaks down what he thinks are the seats that will give Republicans a majority in the next Senate:

Possible Republican wins: CT, WI, WA.

Likely Republican wins: DE, ND, IN, IL, AR, NV, PA, CO, and CA.

The full article is available here.

If Republicans run the table on the Senate races, it will force Obama to get bi-partisan support for passage of his bills. It will also take Reid out of the Obama-Pelosi machine.

I for one am much more focused on the Nevada race than the Washington race. I had a call from the Rossi campaign asking for a pledge of $100.00. I told them I am voting for Rossi, but will send more money to Nevada to help defeat Reid. They agreed that the Nevada race was very important. I feel it is much more important on a national basis. Reid is the salmonella or Tomain poisoning in Washington D.C. ! Murray is just a rotten apple.

I feel Reid made all the Kennedy’s look conservative !

Why would we be foolish enough to put the GOP back in power when we are still up to our necks in the the devastation of the last regime. This economic disaster was not the result actions taken in the last 18 months. It was the policies of the Republican Party. Much has been said about the shortcomings of the current Congress, and the Admininstration, but Republicans, being shortsighted, fail to put the majority of the blame where it belongs…on the GOP.

If you want ObamaCare, Stimulus Spending, Bailouts, higher taxes (wait til you see what Obama’s got planned!( like a takeover of your 401K) Just vote for Murray. She never saw a tax she didn’t like.
I am sickened that Washingtonians are so stupid/gullible as to elect this know nothing bleeding heart over and over again.
We are gonna get socked with taxes b/c this tax and spend liberal Ms. Murray does not get it!!
You libs in Washington will get what you deserve if she gets re-elected.
    Why not try something new?
After all, insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results.
