Former City Council Member Supports Raines, Hicks

Former Sunnyside City Council Member Chad Werkhoven announced his support of Jason Raines and Craig Hicks in a letter to the editor today.  It was published in the Daily Sun News.

This is the text of his letter:

Sunnyside has taken several tremendous steps forward in the last year in our war against gang violence. Send a message that you support our city’s efforts by turning in your ballots and voting for Jason Raines and Craig Hicks for the Sunnyside City Council.

/s/ Chad Werkhoven, Sunnyside

One Response to Former City Council Member Supports Raines, Hicks

  1. Jim Stevens says:

The Daily Sun News has failed to list Bob Story’s article “Two of three incumbents on city council headed to defeat” in their BLOG. An observing public must ask why Mr. Story chose to eliminate his front-page election analysis, 11-09-2011, from their electronic media. Could it be an effort to avoid comment and notoriety to his continual efforts to racially divide Sunnyside? Bob Story’s racist comment, “The incumbent Garcia, the lone Hispanic on the Sunnyside City Council representing a community that’s made up of approximately 80% people of Latino background…”. I have known Pablo Garcia for many years and strongly promoted his entry into the political arena. He is a respected American Citizen who has made his contributions to Sunnyside. Why would Bob Story attempt to segregate him racially from part of the community? Why does Bob continually pound the racial divisions of Sunnyside instead of focusing upon the bond that unites us…being American Citizens. Evidently, Mr. Story’s first focus upon a man’s identity is the color of his skin, hair, eyes and not what he has contributed as a Citizen. Mr. Story failed to mention what percent of the community is Dutch background, or Catholic, or Mormon. He also failed to mention that Craig Hicks has a significant Mexican heritage. What exactly is Mr. Story’s agenda and that of his employer, the Daily Sun News and their administrators? Hopefully, someday, they will become a TEAM player focused on uniting Sunnyside rather than dividing us.
