Should schools teach "citizenship" to students? Why do classrooms traditionally have a U.S. Flag, and why do students recite the Pledge of Allegiance daily?

In decades past, schools were seen as a place to unite groups of immigrants and help shape future society by producing informed citizens with a sense of civic pride.

Are "patriotism," "nationalism," and "citizenship" words that should now be expunged from our vocabulary?

If so, what kind of "members" will serve in the military when the country asks for volunteers? What kind of "members" will serve on juries when a summons is received?

Do "members" have any obligations to serve their country, or are they loyal to any nation?

Should this be of concern to the school district? The trend is to shy away from such things, and focus on "needs" like 2 hot meals a day (free of charge), medical services (free of charge), school supplies like paper and pencils distributed (free of charge), and an increasing insistence that college tuition be free of charge (regardless of what nation or state one is a citizen of).

Our School has created an unspoken message, "Being a Citizen of the United States of America should be concealed...but illegal is Okay." According to Sunnyside School Board #201, It is important that we take extreme measures to assure those who have broken the law that breaking the law is acceptable, it is not your fault. By fostering the anti-American "member vs citizen" philosophy, children who are legal citizens will soon be made to feel ashamed of being an American Citizen. That attitude is already present in the hallways of the Sunnyside Schools...ask the parents.

I think it is a matter of perspective. As a Christian, I believe that, ultimately, I am working for the Lord so I would not do something illegal or immoral to please my boss because I would rather please God than man. I would have to put my trust in Him to provide me with another job. I can't even imagine a boss asking me to help him/her murder someone. If you have established your integrity within your organization - early on with small things - larger issues will never come up because your boss and your co-workers will know that you are a person of integrity and would not do something wrong. I guess it's really all about being faithful in smalll things everyday.
