Bulldozers for McKenna Lots of Fun at Sunshine Days Parade

It was fun joining other supporters of Rob McKenna for Governor in the Sunshine Days Parade today.  Thanks also to State Representative David Taylor for having his own entry in the parade.  It is great to see the high school bands, beauty queens, cheerleaders, and businesses supporting a local event.

“Bulldozers for McKenna” happily rolled through Sunnyside during the Sunshine Days Parade today.

State Rep Taylor’s Endorsement of Candidate Shows Independent Streak

Washington 15th District State Representative David Taylor (R-Moxee), is showing an independent streak in making the announcement he is endorsing Shahram Hadian for the office of governor.  His district includes Sunnyside, and much of eastern Yakima County.  He made the announcement in a press release, with a handful of other state representatives.

In an interview with this blog, Mr. Taylor states he made the endorsement because many people kept asking him who he supports for governor.  He said, “I view primaries as an opportunity for individuals to look at candidates to see who most closely matches up with their beliefs.”

Taylor said once Washington’s top two primary is over, he will look at who is left and decide who to support then; adding that in his opinion, state agencies are out of control and need to be reigned in.

Told that Washington State Republican Party Chairman Kirby Wilbur has called Rob McKenna the “only credible” candidate for governor, Taylor was then asked why he is breaking ranks with many in state Party leadership to endorse Hadian. He said, “This is not the first time I have broken ranks with Kirby Wilbur, and other Republicans in the state.”  He went on to explain that he does not view statewide contests as being different from national ones.  Taylor pointed out that many Republicans have shown support for Ron Paul, and other candidates, not just to Mitt Romney, during the nomination process.

Taylor was then asked if he would support McKenna, if he is running against Jay Inslee in the general election.  His response: “There is no doubt I will support McKenna over Inslee if those are the choices in the general election.  I remember Jay Inslee when he was the Congressman for this area, and I would never cast a vote for Inslee.”

Editor’s note: Acting as an individual, I have officially endorsed Rob McKenna for Governor.  My endorsement can be found on McKenna’s website: http://www.robmckenna.org/blog/2012/04/experience-matters

Representatives Brad Klippert, David Taylor, Jason Overstreet and Matt Shea Endorse Shahram Hadian for Governor

“We are honored to give our support and endorsement to Shahram Hadian as he runs for Governor of Washington State. Without question, he is a man of integrity and character willing to take tough stands based on Republican principles.

Shahram is steadfastly pro-life, pro-marriage and will fight to stop the implementation of Obamacare in Washington State. Specifically, he has committed to sign the Healthcare Freedom Act (HB 1946), opting Washington out of Obamacare.

“‘The Constitution is not an instrument for the government to restrain the people, it is an instrument for the people to restrain the government.’ When Patrick Henry made that statement he understood that an all-powerful central government was the enemy of freedom. Mr. Hadian is a staunch defender of property rights and someone who has the titanium backbone to push back against the onslaught of state and federal regulations that are strangling our economy. We need people now, more than ever, who will take government out of the way so small businesses can get Washington working again. This is how we will restore our Constitutional Republic at the State level. We firmly believe Shahram Hadian is the right person to help lead that fight.”

Please join us in supporting Shahram Hadian for Governor.

Richard Sanders Seeks Return To State Supreme Court

Sanders is seeking a return to the Washington State Supreme Court. He recently addressed the Washington State Republican Party Convention in Tacoma.

The Executive Committee of the Washington State Republican Party unanimously endorsed Richard Sanders for the Washington State Supreme Court.

Liberty, the rule of law, and protection of individual rights drive Sanders to run for the open seat on the court, created by the retirment of Tom Chambers (who is also endorsing Sanders.) He previously lost re-election to the court in 2010, when he received 49.6% of the vote in the statewide race. His current two principal challengers have in the past run as Democrats (Hilyer for King County Executive, and Ladenburg who ran for Attorney General and lost to Rob McKenna.)

Sanders has only run for the judiciary, never seeking partisan office. He heard over 1700 cases, and wrote over 600 opinions during his previous time on the Supreme Court.

Some “controversial” views that Sanders holds are that you have a constitutional right to own property and actually use it. He believes you also have the right to develop your property. Sanders has endorsements from the Gun Action League and the NRA. He is also a champion of religious liberty, and a proponent of open government.

Washington Association of Business, The Rental Housing Association, and the Washington State Realtor Association have all endorsed Sanders for the Supreme Court.

Sanders also believes in the rights of citizens to have issue initiatives and referendums stating “it’s in the state constitution you know!” He decried the recent decision of the court that says citizens can not put the issue of red light cameras on a referendum.

If one supreme court candidate gets over 50% of the vote in the primary, only one name goes on the general election ballot. Sanders joked that this is sort of a communist style election practice, putting only one name on the election ballot, then added “but if I was the only name on the ballot, I would like it.”

The primary election is August 7; voters should begin receiving ballots in the mail during the month of July.

Washington’s Attorney General Rob McKenna put out a press release stating that he will make a “major announcement” at his old high school in Sammamish on Wednesday night.  For months there has been speculation that he will run for Governor, and this is likely to be the formal announcement that he is running.

Here is the press release put out by Friends of Rob McKenna:

McKenna to Make Major Announcement Tomorrow

Attorney General Rob McKenna will make a major announcement Wednesday at 6:00 p.m.

The event will be held at the Performing Arts Center of McKenna’s alma mater, Sammamish High School, from 6:00 p.m. to approximately 6:45 p.m. Following the announcement, McKenna will hold a media availability on site at7:00 p.m.

Governor’s Race: Rob McKenna Takes The Lead!

A poll conducted last week shows Rob McKenna well ahead of Jay Inslee, 48%-41%. The popular Attorney General Rob McKenna is expected to make a bid for the Governor’s Mansion, a position he has publically acknowledged an interest in. With the rumors that Christine Gregoire will not seek reelection, Jay Inslee is flirting with a second attempt as a candidate for Governor, a position he unsuccessfully ran for in 1996, amassing just under 10% of the primary vote.

If Gregoire does decide to seek reelection, Rob McKenna will win even bigger. According to the poll, he will easily cruise to the Mansion, demolishing Gregoire with a wide margin of 52%-40%.

With independents being a crucial electorate, Rob McKenna takes 56% of their vote compared to Jay Inslee’s 29%. It is important to note that most voters are not ideological and could go either way.

With the Hispanic/Latino vote, Rob McKenna does super good. McKenna takes 64% compared to Inslee’s 26%. That is fascinating, considering that GOP candidates rarely get over 40% of the Latino vote. In Washington State, even though the Latino vote is not as big as in California or New Mexico, it is important that GOP candidates reach out(early and not two weeks before the general election). Yakima and Franklin County have the fastest growing Hispanic populations in the state. It will be crucial for statewide elections in the future(and even now, as many elections are decided by very small margins) as it continues to grow.

Rob McKenna is positioned to win – BIG!
