State Rep Taylor’s Endorsement of Candidate Shows Independent Streak

Washington 15th District State Representative David Taylor (R-Moxee), is showing an independent streak in making the announcement he is endorsing Shahram Hadian for the office of governor.  His district includes Sunnyside, and much of eastern Yakima County.  He made the announcement in a press release, with a handful of other state representatives.

In an interview with this blog, Mr. Taylor states he made the endorsement because many people kept asking him who he supports for governor.  He said, “I view primaries as an opportunity for individuals to look at candidates to see who most closely matches up with their beliefs.”

Taylor said once Washington’s top two primary is over, he will look at who is left and decide who to support then; adding that in his opinion, state agencies are out of control and need to be reigned in.

Told that Washington State Republican Party Chairman Kirby Wilbur has called Rob McKenna the “only credible” candidate for governor, Taylor was then asked why he is breaking ranks with many in state Party leadership to endorse Hadian. He said, “This is not the first time I have broken ranks with Kirby Wilbur, and other Republicans in the state.”  He went on to explain that he does not view statewide contests as being different from national ones.  Taylor pointed out that many Republicans have shown support for Ron Paul, and other candidates, not just to Mitt Romney, during the nomination process.

Taylor was then asked if he would support McKenna, if he is running against Jay Inslee in the general election.  His response: “There is no doubt I will support McKenna over Inslee if those are the choices in the general election.  I remember Jay Inslee when he was the Congressman for this area, and I would never cast a vote for Inslee.”

Editor’s note: Acting as an individual, I have officially endorsed Rob McKenna for Governor.  My endorsement can be found on McKenna’s website: http://www.robmckenna.org/blog/2012/04/experience-matters

July 11, 2012 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

July 9, 2012

Representatives Brad Klippert, David Taylor, Jason Overstreet and Matt Shea Endorse Shahram Hadian for Governor

“We are honored to give our support and endorsement to Shahram Hadian as he runs for Governor of Washington State. Without question, he is a man of integrity and character willing to take tough stands based on Republican principles.

Shahram is steadfastly pro-life, pro-marriage and will fight to stop the implementation of Obamacare in Washington State. Specifically, he has committed to sign the Healthcare Freedom Act (HB 1946), opting Washington out of Obamacare.

“‘The Constitution is not an instrument for the government to restrain the people, it is an instrument for the people to restrain the government.’ When Patrick Henry made that statement he understood that an all-powerful central government was the enemy of freedom. Mr. Hadian is a staunch defender of property rights and someone who has the titanium backbone to push back against the onslaught of state and federal regulations that are strangling our economy. We need people now, more than ever, who will take government out of the way so small businesses can get Washington working again. This is how we will restore our Constitutional Republic at the State level. We firmly believe Shahram Hadian is the right person to help lead that fight.”

Please join us in supporting Shahram Hadian for Governor.

Brad Klippert (R) David Taylor (R)

Josh Romney Fires Up Washington Republicans

Before Josh Romney started speaking to Republican supporters in Tacoma, the Romney campaign played a video clip of Rick Santorum urging his campaign supporters to back Romney during the Washington State Republican Party Convention.  Delegates and other supporters came to a special reception held just down the street from the convention center in order to hear directly from Romney’s son on Thursday night.

Josh Romney received a very enthusiastic welcome from those assembled.  He spoke proudly of his multiple visits to Washington during this campaign.  Josh said it was a big win during the Washington caucuses held this past March, and helped Romney gain momentum in winning delegates for the nomination.

Josh said part of campaigning is the pressure of knowing that people are owed for the hard work they are doing to get the candidate elected.  He said his Dad is working 18 hours a day campaigning across the country.

Josh said that Romney is keeping pace with Obama, but that if you think about the last four years, you can imagine how bad it would be to have another four years of him.  He also recognized the efforts of Ron Paul and his supporters in doing everything possible to ensure that Obama is defeated in November.

Referring to Obama’s criticism of Mitt Romney for work at Bain Capital, Josh acknowledged that his father was not always successful in every investment, but that he was successful far more often than he wasn’t.  Further, he learned from his failures, and work with the Olympics, and knows what it takes to create jobs to help America.

In comparing that record to Obama, Josh points out that Obama does a “public sector investment” in Solyndra.  Josh finds it interesting that Obama would criticize his father for his investment deals, when he is losing investment money made with other people’s money.

Josh said Mitt is running because of his 18 grandchildren, and could be spending time doing things besides staying in hotel rooms across the country.

He also told of how after the last race, his mother told Mitt that if she ever thought about him running again, he should take her, shake her, and slap her across the face.

Mitt replied, “You also said that after every pregnancy!”

Josh added that there were five children in his family, and he must have said that after each one of them were born.

In concluding, Josh Romney thanked the campaign supporters for working to make Mitt Romney the next President of the United States.

Dino Rossi Introduces Romney’s Son To Supporters In Tacoma

Rossi Introduces Josh Romney to Campaign Supporters

This week all Republicans in Washington are watching what is going on in Tacoma.  It is the Washington State Republican Party Convention, with delegates and supporters  gathered from all around, in part to select delegates to the party’s national convention that will be held in Tampa, Florida later this year.

Thursday evening, supporters of Mitt Romney were invited to a special reception at a nearby hotel, where they had a chance to hear from his son Josh.  But first, they were treated to an introduction by Washington Republican stalwart: Dino Rossi.

Rossi is Co-Chair of Washington’s Romney campaign.  He says that in every email he sends out, he includes the phrase “Saving the free world” because that is what it is all about.  Rossi pointed out 50,000 people turned out for Republican caucuses in March, and voted for an overwhelming Romney victory in our state.

Gingrich and Santorum campaigns are fully behind Romney, and are supporting a Romney slate of delegates for the national convention.  Rossi alluded to “Brand X” supporting another slate (a reference to Ron Paul supporters who are trying to elect delegates as well.)

Rossi states that we have a businessman running against a man who has never had a real job in his life. He elaborated saying, “I don’t consider being a community agitator for ACORN to be a real job.”  He concluded by saying he is excited about Romney running for President.

HR 1207 “Audit the Fed” Bill Now Co-Sponsored By Majority of House Members

Ron Paul’s HR 1207, the “Audit the Fed” bill is now being co-sponsored by the majority of members of the U.S. House of Representatives.  It is gathering bi-partisan support as Americans demand transparency in government.  Our local Congressman, Doc Hastings, is also a co-sponsor of the bill.

Here is a copy of the press release from Congressman Paul’s office:

For Immediate Release
June 11, 2009 Audit the Fed Bill Reaches Crucial Benchmark Washington, D.C. – Congressman Ron Paul’s Federal Reserve Transparency Act, HR 1207, has reached and surpassed the level of 218 cosponsors in the House of Representatives, which means it is now cosponsored by a majority of the members.

The 218th cosponsor was Dennis Kucinich (OH-10), and the bill has since received its 222nd cosponsor.
“The tremendous grass-roots and bipartisan support in Congress for HR 1207 is an indicator of how mainstream America is fed up with Fed secrecy,” said Congressman Paul. “I look forward to this issue receiving greater public exposure.”
Hearings on Federal Reserve transparency are expected within the next month, as part of the Financial Services Committee’s series of hearings on regulatory reform.

Imagine

Texas Straight Talk is Congressman Ron Paul’s weekly column.  This is what he had to say for the week of March 9th, 2009.  If we had Russian or Chinese troops on our streets in Washington, I suspect we would behave much the same.

To see this at its original site, go here.

Imagine

Imagine for a moment that somewhere in the middle of Texas there was a large foreign military base, say Chinese or Russian.  Imagine that thousands of armed foreign troops were constantly patrolling American streets in military vehicles.  Imagine they were here under the auspices of “keeping us safe” or “promoting democracy” or “protecting their strategic interests.”

Imagine that they operated outside of US law, and that the Constitution did not apply to them.  Imagine that every now and then they made mistakes or acted on bad information and accidentally killed or terrorized innocent Americans, including women and children, most of the time with little to no repercussions or consequences.  Imagine that they set up check points on our soil and routinely searched and ransacked entire neighborhoods of homes.  Imagine if Americans were fearful of these foreign troops, and overwhelmingly thought America would be better off without their presence.

Imagine if some Americans were so angry about them being in Texas that they actually joined together to fight them off, in defense of our soil and sovereignty, because leadership in government refused or were unable to do so.  Imagine that those Americans were labeled terrorists or insurgents for their defensive actions, and routinely killed, or captured and tortured by the foreign troops on our land.  Imagine that the occupiers’ attitude was that if they just killed enough Americans, the resistance would stop, but instead, for every American killed, ten more would take up arms against them, resulting in perpetual bloodshed.  Imagine if most of the citizens of the foreign land also wanted these troops to return home.  Imagine if they elected a leader who promised to bring them home and put an end to this horror.

Imagine if that leader changed his mind once he took office.

The reality is that our military presence on foreign soil is as offensive to the people that live there as armed Chinese troops would be if they were stationed in Texas.  We would not stand for it here, but we have had a globe straddling empire and a very intrusive foreign policy for decades that incites a lot of hatred and resentment towards us.

According to our own CIA, our meddling in the Middle East was the prime motivation for the horrific attacks on 9/11.   But instead of re-evaluating our foreign policy, we have simply escalated it.  We had a right to go after those responsible for 9/11, to be sure, but why do so many Americans feel as if we have a right to a military presence in some 160 countries when we wouldn’t stand for even one foreign base on our soil, for any reason?  These are not embassies, mind you, these are military installations.  The new administration is not materially changing anything about this.  Shuffling troops around and playing with semantics does not accomplish the goals of the American people, who simply want our men and women to come home.  50,000 troops left behind in Iraq is not conducive to peace any more than 50,000 Russian soldiers would be in the United States.

Shutting down military bases and ceasing to deal with other nations with threats and violence is not isolationism.  It is the opposite.  Opening ourselves up to friendship, honest trade and diplomacy is the foreign policy of peace and prosperity.  It is the only foreign policy that will not bankrupt us in short order, as our current actions most definitely will.  I share the disappointment of the American people in the foreign policy rhetoric coming from the administration.  The sad thing is, our foreign policy WILL change eventually, as Rome’s did, when all budgetary and monetary tricks to fund it are exhausted.

The Economic Bust Caused A Boom In Sales For At Least One Author

Ayn Rand’s 1957 novel “Atlas Shrugged”, long a favorite of libertarians and college students, has seen a surge in sales as government interventions in the marketplace increase.  On January 13th, the book’s sales ranking on Amazon bested even President Barack Obama’s popular book “The Audacity of Hope”.  See the Economist article here.

Fans of the book recognize current politicians are committing the very acts of economic lunacy the book parodied when it was first published.

The book illustrates how politicians’ response to crises, creating more government programs, laws, and regulations, in turn creates more havoc and poverty.

Atlas Shrugged continues to influence conservative political culture. Rush Limbaugh, Ronald Reagan, Clarence Thomas, and Glenn Beck are all admirers of Rand’s works.

Ron Paul includes the novel in his recommended reading list, from his book “The Revolution: A Manifesto”, saying: “I consider all of Rand’s novels worth reading, in spite of my strong disagreements with her on important matters.”

Atlas Shrugged” is in development for a movie, with a possible release date in 2011.

David Kelley, president of the Atlas Society, which is dedicated to promoting Rand’s ideas, joked “We don’t need to make a movie out of the book, we are living it right now.” See the Wall Street Journal article here.

McCain: Stimulus Bill Is “Generational Theft”

Wow!  Even John McCain now recognizes that the massive debt load we are incurring will hurt future generations of Americans.  This stimulus bill, as bad as it is, is only the tip of the iceberg.  More money is being requested to bailout banks (did they not get enough from McCain’s $700 billion bailout?).  The Obama administration is also laying groundwork for a potential universal health care system.  That should be interesting to see.

Our economic problems have been caused, in large part, because of too much debt.  We saw serious problems crop up at first in the so-called “subprime” mortgage market.  As more people lose their jobs, mortgage defaults are rising, and can not be dismissed as “subprime” any longer.  Banks are failing, and fleecing Americans for taxpayer dollars.  After all, they are too big to fail.  Just ask any D.C. politician (except maybe Ron Paul, and a handful of others) and they will tell you so.

With government and private debt maximized, the credit market is freezing up.  Common sense would tell you that a family, or even a government, can only borrow so much without going broke.  So what do you do?  The prudent thing to do, is to reduce spending and debt.  This is true for families, and also governments.  But common sense is not what we are using.

The newest proposed government solution to debt induced problems: run up a debt of “sufficient size” to “stimulate” the economy.  Of course, if nobody wants to lend us money, we can just print some!  Either way, this will hurt future generations of Americans.

John McCain is getting it right when he says it is “generational theft”.  Either the money will be borrowed, and repaid by future generations through higher taxes, and a reduced standard of living; or it will be printed, resulting in inflation.  There is also the possibility of a combination of the two.  Either way, less money or purchasing power will result in a declining standard of living.

We can only hope that Congress will come to its senses, and look for ways to cut spending, instead of increasing it.

To see the story about John McCain’s comments, go here.

The cost of the stimulus is comparable to what we have spent on the War in Iraq so far.  Which will get the prize of costing taxpayers more?  Stay tuned to find out….Congress is only getting started!

Obama Warns Of Trillion Dollar Deficits For Years To Come

Obama is now warning of trillion dollar deficits for years to come.  His new stimulus package includes tax cuts and increased government spending.  In addition, he does not offer any significant proposals to change military or foreign policy.  I asked a Democrat friend of mine how that is any “change” from what we have under Bush.  His response: “Obama is not from Texas!”

I think some of the hyper-enthusiastic Obama supporters will be very dissapointed.  The reality is that the Republicans and Democrats did not offer any real difference in choice during the last election.  We have a chance to turn this around in the next election cycle.  Historically, the opposition party will increase its numbers in Congress during mid-term elections.  I do not think that 2010 will be any different.  It can be HUGE, however, if we run true Conservatives under the Republican banner.  People that not only give lip service to limited government, but will make a real effort to cut spending.

Ron Paul was on CNN this morning giving his reaction to all of the stimulus/deficit talk.  Watch the clip below.

RNC Chairman Candidates Discuss Ron Paul & Campaign For Liberty

This is a video clip from the debate this morning, where the candidates for Chairman of the Republican National Committee discussed Ron Paul and the Campaign For Liberty.  The moderator was Grover Norquist, from Americans for Tax Reform.  Mr. Norquist stated that the Federal Reserve System was “completely annoying” at the end of this clip.  I wish the candidates could have addressed the issue also.  Still, it is a good sign that the Republican Party is starting to think about these types of issues.

Personally I like both Saul Anuzis and Ken Blackwell for the job; the only candidate I don’t care for is the current chairman, Mike Duncan.  We will find out who the new chairman is at the end of this month.
